About David

Former District Court Judge David H. Strickland currently is a practicing attorney with the law firm of SoniBrendle PLLC.  David was elected to the District Court Bench in 2012 and proudly served Mecklenburg County from 2013-2020.  David has presided over Criminal Court, Family Court, Civil Court, and Juvenile Court in his eight (8) years on the bench.  David has served as the lead Juvenile Judge and lead Involuntary Commitment Judge for Mecklenburg County. David has presided over numerous serious felony matters and has presided over civil jury trials.

David was proud to be ranked the No. 1 Judge in Mecklenburg County in a survey conducted by the North Carolina Bar Association.

David has been active in the community previously serving on the Governor’s Crime Commission and the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC).

While a District Court Judge, David volunteered at numerous elementary schools throughout Mecklenburg County running a truancy court program.

As a proud graduate of Wake Forest University, David has also worked with the Wake Forest University LAUNCH program and their summer enrichment program for juveniles in the local area.

Outside of the courtroom, David enjoys officiating high school basketball as a hobby.
